Proposals for the Creative Places Arts Impact award, for projects commencing on or after 1st April 2024 through to 30th September 2024, is now open.
Creative Places Athy is an initiative funded by the Arts Council of Ireland and Kildare County Council. Creative Places Athy aims to support the existing arts & cultural strengths in Athy to support artistic work with individuals, artists/creatives, communities and strengthen existing local, contemporary & traditional arts practices.
Creative Places Athy is seeking proposals from local, national/international professional artists/creatives or arts organisations/collectives that wish to collaborate artistically with individuals or groups in Athy on creative projects that will create an artistic impact for the people and place of the area.
The award will support the planning, production and presentation of the proposed idea. The proposal should:
- support and reflect the ethos of arts participation - participatory, collaborative, community and socially engaged arts practices.
- have a vision to incubate and deliver artistically ambitious and durational projects. Proposals should consider the legacy of the project, particularly that of embedding arts & culture in Athy.
- identify potential additional funding from other resources to further develop the proposed idea.
This award is open to any artform, and the proposal must be artist/creative led.
The maximum amount which can be applied for is €15,000.
Creative Places Athy will support the successful applicant through knowledge sharing and relationship development with stakeholders working
with the programme who may be beneficial to your proposal.
Deadline for receipt of proposals is 12 noon Feb 28th, 2024.
Successful applicants notified by 15th March 2024.
Project duration dates: 1st April 2024 – September 30th, 2024.
Application Process/How to apply and Deadlines:
Having read the criteria, applicants should submit their proposals through our online form.
1. A detailed proposal – 500 words outlining your ideas and approach to the project award, additional documents may be uploaded
2. Your experience in collaborative/socially engaged practice.
3. Potential resources that you have identified that may support the ambitions legacy of embedding arts & culture in a place-based settings
4. Upload a CV (pdf)
5. Upload images or examples of recent projects with short descriptions. If you have relevant links to images and videos, please include them within these examples. Max. 10 images. (pdf)
6. A detailed breakdown of the budget allocation including timeline.

Proposals should consider the following:
· Ability to provide a proven track record as professional artists/creatives or organisations working in arts participation and/or leading on collaborative projects
· Inclusion of methodologies for engagement and artistic collaboration that will demonstrate clear artistic vision and goals
· Engagement and artistic collaboration that considers accessibility needs
· Ability to draw on the creative contributions of all participants while providing opportunities for artistic challenge
· Ensure that the quality of the engagement between artist and participants is considered at all stages and phases
· Ability to establish active support and commitment from all participants and partners, respective roles and contributions, including identification of training and support needs if applicable
· Proposals that have artistic goals and outcomes alongside those related to the principles and values of socially engaged art and community development
· Knowledge of current arts-participation practice which considers place-based sustainability in the arts in Ireland or abroad that is relevant to the proposal
· Knowledge and clear understanding of sources of funding that could support and expand the proposal idea
Eligibility
This is a competitive fund. All proposals will be assessed by an independent panel
Applicants must be over 18 years of age
All recipients of grants for projects involving children or young people must have appropriate policies in place regarding Child Protection.
Ineligible Proposals
Proposals submitted after the deadlines
Proposals that do not meet the purpose of the award
Proposals requesting funding for commercial activity or capital costs
Proposals from individuals aged under 18 years of age or in second level education
Proposals for projects in retrospect
Proposals for activities which are not related to the arts or creative industries
General arts activities in schools, unless your proposal is for artist-led activity which supports learning though creativity
Building work or feasibility studies for building projects
Business start-up or on-going running costs
Fundraising programmes
Proposals that are solely focused on therapeutic interventions
Proposals from employees of Kildare County Council. These individuals may not apply as lead applicants, however in certain circumstances can be involved as creative collaborators / advisors / participants in proposals submitted by a third party.
Proposals for activities better suited to others awards and/or schemes offered by the county council.
Proposals for activities that could be better supported by other supports within Kildare County Council (e.g. Brigid 1500, Creative Ireland) or public agency supports e.g. Arts Council, Creative Ireland, Culture Ireland, Design & Crafts Council Ireland, Music Generation.
Assessment and Decision
- Proposals will be assessed by an independent assessment panel.
- Proposals are assessed in a competitive context and with consideration of the application form and the supporting materials submitted. Proposals are assessed taking the published assessment criteria into consideration. Consideration is also given to the artform(s) supported and the Creative Places Athy remit. Criteria for consideration at assessment will include artistic ambition; meeting the purpose/aims of the award; benefit of the proposal/arts activity to the area and county; feasibility.
- Must Fund: In the view of the assessment panel, the proposal is deemed to have fully met the criteria for the award and merits funding on that basis.
- Should Fund: In the view of the assessment panel, the proposal is deemed to have met the criteria to an extent sufficient to merit funding should resources allow.
- Could Fund: In the view of the assessment panel, the proposal is deemed to have met the criteria, but to a lesser extent within the competitive context than other proposals.
- Not Shortlisted to Fund: In the view of the assessment panel, the proposal is deemed to have not met the criteria to an extent sufficient to merit funding
All applicants will be advised of panel's decision by email.
Creative Places Athy is not in a position to provide feedback on individual proposals.
Grant aid provided by Creative Places Athy Kildare County Council must be acknowledged in all publicity material associated with the project. Creative Places Athy reserves the right to publicise the awarding of the fund. Failure to acknowledge Creative Places Athy and Kildare County Council appropriately may deem the grant invalid and grant aid received may need to be refunded to Kildare County Council.
If your proposal is successful, you will be required to submit a learning report at the end of the project in September 2024, whether the project has been completed or not. Failure to submit a report may deem the grant invalid and grant aid received may need to be refunded to Kildare County Council.
The payment of a grant is not taken as an indication that the equivalent of any grant will be made to the organiser on another occasion.
